HOW IT ALL STARTED

The idea of combining countries with fast-growing economies was first voiced in the early 2000s. The initiative was developed in 2006, when the Foreign Ministers of Russia, China, India and Brazil held their first meeting.

The Association stands for a fair multipolar world, international dialogue and respect for the sovereignty of countries. This is an alternative to the unipolar model based on the dominance of individual states

MISSION STATEMENTA

In 2024, BRICS opened its doors to new members: Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia joined the union. In 2025 — Indonesia. Today, the BRICS represent more than half of the world's population and have enormous economic and cultural potential.

EXPANSION

In 2009, Yekaterinburg hosted the first summit of BRICS leaders. The following year, the Republic of South Africa joined the group, and the organization received its current name — BRICS.
